Make a point: Communicating point solutions to your employees

28 January 2025

Imagine a workplace where health and wellness programs, financial education tools, and mental health resources are not only available but actively embraced by your employees. Picture a team that fully understands the point solutions (benefit offerings that address specific needs) you offer and how to access them, thanks to your communication. It's not just a dream—it's achievable with the right approach. Here are three key points to keep in mind when communicating point solutions to your employees.

#1: Make it about them

  • Segment your audience. Tailor messages to employees and their families, based on demographics, roles, and what they want, think, feel, and need.
  • Highlight relevant costs and features. Don’t be shy about communicating costs. Focus on what employees care about most to help them choose what best fits their needs.
  • Incorporate stories. Use real-life examples, testimonials, and relatable personas to illustrate the benefits of each point solution, showing employees what’s in it for them.

#2: Connect the dots

  • Prioritize needs over names. Point solution company names aren’t always descriptive or especially memorable. Organize benefit information and directories by topic, such as family forming benefits or virtual care.
  • Make it yours. Employees may perceive outreach from point solution companies as advertising. Co-brand communications from vendors and supplement with your own internal messages.
  • Have one clear call to action in each communication.

#3: Keep the conversation going

  • Educate regularly. Raise awareness with regular reminders. Employees may not need or be ready to hear about a particular topic when you first roll out a solution.
  • Keep it interactive. Engage employees in Q&A sessions with human resources, benefits teams, point solutions experts, and coworkers who have seen positive results. Hold these discussions one-on-one or in group meetings, with virtual and in-person options to cater to different communication preferences.
  • Organize topic-focused campaigns. Coordinate awareness campaigns with vendors to shine a light on one topic at a time. Develop and consistently update a benefits website with webinars, videos, presentations, and decision tools for employees and family members to access whenever and wherever they need it.
